Beginnings

Our story began with the idea to develop a downlight around the then-new compact fluorescent lamp. We would pack it full of options and accessories, manufacture it with the OEM's logo on and deliver it within 2-3 days.

About Us

A journey dedicated to doing it right.

Higher or lower product performance and specification is a choice our customer can turn up or down dependent upon the application and budget, however non-conformance to standards and directives is a crime. Since 2010 we have invested over £350,000 in technical labs and testing equipment to give us the ability to develop, validate and certify products in-house, giving you the assurance that when a product leaves our factory with your name on it, it's been done right. We have been an ISO 9001 accredited company since 2013, so you can be assured that you will receive the same excellent level of service from us every time.

On-site facilities

Take a look inside

We firmly believe that carrying out as many processes as possible in-house gives greater control and allows greater flexibility in everything we do. Contact our Sales team for more information.

Values

Strong values are key

01.

Innovation

Lighting the way ahead

We are dedicated to offering products and services that meet the changing needs of OEMs. We work closely with technology partners and material suppliers to ensure new and innovative systems and components are quickly integrated within our product portfolio.

02.

Assurance

Tried and tested products and services

Putting LEDs in a metal frame and calling it a light fitting isn't a hard thing to do. Making sure it complies with standards and performs as well as claimed on a data sheet takes time, money, knowledge and skills. We are massively proud of every product that leaves our factory.

03.

Flexibility

The ability and agility to adapt to your needs

We understand that one size doesn't fit all. Flexibility and agility run through every aspect of our company, from product to people, through systems and procedures. Our aim is to ensure that you never have to say "no" to your customer.

04.

Speed

Respecting momentum and time importance

Fast-moving projects demand rapid decision-making, sharing of information and supply of products, and these are critical to the relationship and service we offer to our OEM customers. We are committed to delivering the products and services you need, on time and on budget.

Sustainability

Committing to a sustainable future

We continue, throughout our factories and business activities, to make conscious decisions and investments to proactively reduce and offset carbon emissions. Our design and development programme embraces and supports a circular economy and we are innovating with a range of services that encourage existing products to be renewed and reused, reducing landfill waste and unnecessary recycling.

Design & Development Director

Message

"Climate change and unnecessary waste are threatening the world we live in, so we all have a responsibility to do what we can to protect our precious planet for future generations.

Sustainability has always been a key part of the design and development process at Martech. Integrating the latest technologies and fashions, whilst minimising the use of precious raw materials and optimising product performance to keep pace with legislation is a challenge relished by the Design team."

History

Our story over time

1995

The journey begins. Martech, short for "Marney Technology", is founded by Derek and Malcolm on a clear, sunny day in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire.

1996

After a year of blood, sweat and beers, the first 192 mm CFL downlight, featuring a die-cast bezel and injection-moulded UL94-VO flame-retardant gear housing, rolls off the assembly bench.

2001

After rapid growth in its first 6 years, the company moves to a purpose-built 28.000 sq ft factory in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

2004

Family and friends continue to contribute to the growth of the business, our iconic banana characters fill wall planners up and down the country, and strong supply chain relationships bring success and pride to the Martech team.

2007

After 10 years as Sales Director, Craig takes over as MD, evolving the company and its systems and procedures to take it into the digital age.

2009

Our first mass-produced LED downlight for general illumination is launched, featuring Philips' 2000 lm Fortimo module, a very expensive driver and an active Synjet heatsink

2010

The company continues to grow and makes a major investment, setting up photometric, thermal and compliance labs at our Dewsbury factory.

2015

Record breaking sales. Martech listed as one of Yorkshire's top 50 fastest growing companies. Land bought for a new factory.

2016

Phase 1 of our new 90,000 sq ft purpose-built factory is completed as CFL & HID are dropped and our product range becomes 100% low energy, long life LED.

2017

Exponential increase in e-commerce puts pressure on the high street, whilst the UK votes for Brexit to leave the EU. Uncertainty and disruption to UK markets & trade force us to refocus.

2020

As Covid 19 takes over the world, on 23rd March the PM announces UK lockdown, ordering everyone to stay at home. As markets shrink and close, we research the word "furlough".

2022

Martech returns to growth as the world creeps towards a new post-Covid type of normality. The Russian invasion of Ukraine contributes to the growing logistical and cost-increase challenges.
